Dr Adam Zsolt Wagner is a Research Scientist at Google DeepMind, working on the application of artificial intelligence to mathematical reasoning. He was previously an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI).
His research interests include machine learning, combinatorics, and graph theory. Initially, his work focused on combinatorics and graph theory, addressing fundamental questions and exploring their intersections with fields such as theoretical computer science and number theory. In recent years, he has shifted towards the integration of computational methods into mathematical research. Notably, he has used reinforcement learning algorithms to enable programmes to autonomously disprove open conjectures and has explored the use of generative machine learning techniques to tackle unresolved problems. His work on machine learning has been featured in Quanta Magazine.
Dr Wagner has published over 25 academic papers on algorithms, graphs, and networks. He has also collaborated internationally across disciplines, including biology, voting systems, and geometry. In addition to his research contributions, he has organised multiple conferences and workshops and mentored several students.
