Professional profile

Prof. József Váncza is the Head of the Research Laboratory on Engineering and Management Intelligence (EMI) at the HUN-REN Institute for Computer Science and Control (HUN-REN SZTAKI) and an Associate Professor in the Department of Manufacturing Science and Engineering at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME). Professor Váncza is a Fellow of the International Academy for Production Engineering (CIRP), where he chaired the Scientific Technical Committee on Production Systems and Organisations (STC O) from 2016 to 2019. He is also a member of the Hungarian Academy of Engineering and Vice-President of the John von Neumann Computer Society. In recognition of his contributions, he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Hungarian Republic in 2008.

His primary research interests include artificial intelligence and its applications in manufacturing, planning and learning in production and energy management, human-robot collaboration, and cooperative and sustainable production. He has authored or co-authored over 200 scientific papers, which have received more than 3,000 independent citations.
