Professional profile

Prof. Lin Weisi is the Associate Dean (Research) at the College of Computing and Data Science, Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, where he also holds the position of President's Chair in Computer Science. Previously, he served as Lab Head, Visual Processing, and later as Acting Department Manager, Media Processing, at the Institute for Infocomm Research (Singapore).

Professor Lin's research interests include perception-inspired signal modelling, visual quality evaluation, video compression, image processing and analysis, and multimedia systems. He has led over 10 successfully completed projects in digital multimedia technology development. He holds 16 patents, has authored 2 books, edited 3 books, written 9 book chapters, and published over 400 refereed papers in international journals and conferences. He has also contributed to more than 10 international standardisations. Believing that good theory should be practical, he has maintained a balance between academic research and industrial deployment throughout his career.

Recognised for his contributions to perceptual modelling and the processing of visual signals, he was named a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) in 2016. Since 2019, he has been listed as a Highly Cited Researcher by Clarivate Analytics.
