
Paulo Bartolo

Prof. Paulo Jorge da Silva Bartolo is a prominent figure in advanced manufacturing and 3D printing. Since August 2021, he has been a Professor at the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and the Executive Director of the Singapore Centre for 3D Printing at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore.
Prior to joining NTU, Professor Bartolo held several notable positions. In February 2014, he was appointed Chair Professor of Advanced Manufacturing at the University of Manchester (UK). During his tenure, he led the Manufacturing Group, spearheaded the Innovative Manufacturing Research Theme, and was an active member of the Department of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering Executive Committee. He also played a key role in the university's strategic initiatives, serving as Industry 4.0 Academic Lead and contributing to the Advanced Manufacturing Strategic Oversight Group.
Before his time in Manchester, Professor Bartolo was the founder and Director of the Centre for Rapid and Sustainable Product Development (2007–2013) at the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria, Portugal, which was recognised as a Centre of Excellence in Mechanical Engineering by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology. At the same institute, he served as Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department (2001–2009) and held leadership roles in various research and academic committees.
