Getting around Budapest

Budapest has an extensive public transport network of metro, tram, bus and trolleybus lines. For route planning and ticket purchase, the official BudapestGO app is recommended.

  • 100E Airport Express: direct connection between Budapest Airport and the city centre (Deák Ferenc tér), with a journey time of about 40 minutes. The service operates around the clock.
  • 100E ticket: the current single airport shuttle fare is HUF 2,500. Holders of a valid eligible Budapest, Pest County or Hungary pass can use the HUF 1,000 add-on airport ticket.
  • Tickets: single tickets must be validated at the beginning of the journey. Time-based tickets and passes can be purchased in BudapestGO.
  • Bálna: Fővám tér is served by M4 metro and several tram connections.
  • HUN-REN Headquarters: the venue is centrally located and can be reached by metro and tram/bus connections via Kossuth Lajos tér, Nyugati tér or the surrounding city-centre stops.
  • MTA: the building is located on Széchenyi István tér beside the Danube and is easily reached by tram and on foot from central Pest.

Airport taxis & transfers

At Budapest Airport, use the official taxi stands outside Terminals 2A and 2B. Főtaxi is the contracted airport taxi provider; vehicles accept card payments. The airport also provides the 100E Airport Express and the miniBUD shuttle service.

Friday cultural programme – Parliament

The cultural programme begins at 09:00 in front of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, where buses and guides will meet participants. The day will include a guided visit to the Buda Castle District, followed by an excursion to the picturesque town of Szentendre, with a wine tasting and buffet lunch. The group is expected to return to the Hungarian Academy of Sciences at approximately 17:30. Further details will be sent to conference participants.

October in Budapest – what to pack

October is an autumn month in Budapest, with changeable weather possible. We recommend layers, a light waterproof jacket or umbrella, comfortable walking shoes and a warmer layer for evenings. Several programme elements involve walking between venues or outdoor cultural visits.
