Six HUN-REN researchers awarded funding through the MTA Lendület Programme
Artificial intelligence, cancer research, sustainable energy production, astronomy, ecology and quantum physics – these are the fields in which new HUN-REN research groups will be established with support from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences' (MTA) Lendület (Momentum) Programme. This year, six HUN-REN researchers were awarded funding through the Academy's flagship excellence programme to establish research groups.
The successful projects hosted by HUN-REN research institutes include:
At the HUN-REN Research Centre for Natural Sciences, Dávid Bajusz will use artificial intelligence to map drug-like chemical space through the DrugSpaceAI project, while András Füredi and his team will investigate the molecular circuitry of therapy-induced senescence, focusing on its regulation, escape pathways and therapeutic vulnerabilities.
At the HUN-REN Centre for Energy Research, Mátyás Dabóczi will explore how high-flux sunlight and perovskite photoelectrodes can be harnessed simultaneously for the upcycling of plastic waste and the production of hydrogen.
At the HUN-REN Research Centre for Astronomy and Earth Sciences, Emma Kun and her team will investigate the identification of cosmic particle accelerators through multi-messenger astronomy.
At the HUN-REN Centre for Ecological Research, Attila Lengyel and his research group will examine the introduction pathways of emerging non-native plant species in Hungary and assess their invasion risk.
At the HUN-REN Wigner Research Centre for Physics, Levente Rózsa will investigate the emergence of quantum robustness from magnetic order.
