Professional profileProf. Guan Cuntai is the President’s Chair in Computer Science and Engineering and Deputy Dean at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore. In the realm of Artificial Intelligence, Professor Guan focuses on the intersection of machine learning and neural signal processing. His research is instrumental in developing AI systems that can interpret complex brain patterns, facilitating breakthroughs in healthcare and assistive technologies. By applying advanced algorithms to medical imaging and neural data, his work enhances the precision of diagnostic tools and rehabilitative robotics.
With a career spanning both academia and high-level research institutes, Prof. Guan has established himself as a global leader in Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCI). His foundational work at A*STAR’s Institute for Infocomm Research led to the creation of dedicated departments for neural and biomedical technology, bridging the gap between engineering and medicine.
Professor Guan has authored over 420 peer-reviewed publications and holds 26 patents, many of which are licensed to international tech companies. He is the recipient of the International Annual BCI Research Award (First Prize), the King Salman Award for Disability Research, the Nanyang Research Award, and the IES Prestigious Engineering Achievement Award. Professor Guan is a Fellow of the IEEE, National Academy of Inventors (NAI, USA), Singapore Academy of Engineering (SAEng), and AIMBE. His contributions continue to drive the evolution of intelligent systems that harmonize human cognition with machine processing.
