The leadership of HUN-REN – with authorisation from the Governing Board – began negotiations with the government in October 2024 on the renewal of the organisation and the establishment of the legal framework for the new operation. The initiative was preceded by an evaluative review and analysis of the results conducted with the participation of international scientific experts at HUN-REN research sites.
The foundations of HUN-REN’s renewal include the establishment of an efficient and flexible network operation, the creation of self-owned real estate and infrastructure, and the adjustment of employees’ salaries. The goal is to build a successful, performance-driven research network that operates flexibly and efficiently. Modern operations will focus on impact-driven research that addresses both social and economic challenges, benefiting the Hungarian community and tackling global issues. The renewal also seeks to strengthen collaboration, enhance research excellence, and provide a predictable career path for researchers.
