HUN-REN Hungarian Research Centre for Linguistics

The mission of the HUN-REN Hungarian Research Centre for Linguistics (HUN-REN NYTK) is to cultivate all areas of Hungarian linguistics and to conduct general, experimental and applied linguistic research.

HUN-REN NYTK’s core research activity focuses on the following areas and research objec­tives:

  • basic research in language theory and experimental and Hungarian linguistics: language theory, phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, psycholinguistics, neurolinguistics;
  • historical-comparative, language typology, linguistic history basic research and Uralic studies;
  • conducting dictionary research, compiling the first comprehensive Hungarian dictionary series (A magyar nyelv nagyszótára);
  • corpus linguistics research;
  • social linguistic research, living language and multilingualism research;
  • language and speech technology, R&D activities.
