HUN-REN IEM's main research topic is the examination and understanding of the nervous system with the aim of increasing our knowledge of the brain and contributing to the treatment of neurological diseases that pose a huge burden on society, and also to promote the development of medical diagnostics and brain research methods.
The Institute's 20 research groups each have independent research profiles and together represent all major disciplines in neuroscience from pharmacology, behavior and stress research to neuroimmunology and cellular and network biology approaches.
HUN-REN IEM’s range of equipment comprises state-of-the-art microscopes and instruments designed for measuring neuronal activity, paired with complex molecular neurobiological methods. Ten core facilities support the work of the research groups, significantly enhancing the diversification of the used methods.
