SCIENTIFIC VICE PRESIDENTS OF HUN-REN

The Scientific Vice-Presidents coordinate the scientific and innovation activities of the research institutions. They are appointed by the Governing Body upon the proposal of the President. Their task is to continuously support the decision-making and management work of the President and the CEO through their proposals and professional opinions.

In the course of their work, they participate in the development and implementation of HUN-REN’s strategy, the objectives of the research institutions, and the research priorities of the respective scientific domains. They also contribute to strengthening the efficiency and effectiveness of research activities carried out within the research institutions. They make proposals for the development of the research organizational system, take part in shaping and improving HUN-REN’s internal grant framework, and contribute to the development of the researchers’ career model.

Each Vice-President is responsible for a specific scientific domain, and the corresponding research institutions fall within their portfolio. The three domains are Engineering and Natural Sciences (STEM), Life Sciences (LIFE), and Frontier Sciences.

The institutions within each portfolio can be viewed by clicking on the photo of the respective Vice-President.

DIRECTOR GENERALS OF HUN-REN RESEARCH INSTITUTIONS

The heads of the HUN-REN research institutions are the Directors General.

The Director General leads and manages the research institution. In this capacity, they provide the general and independent representation of the institution (including entering into contracts, undertaking commitments, and exercising ownership rights over the institution’s assets and over business entities established by the institution).

Their responsibilities include defining the scientific strategy of the research institution; developing its research objectives, key thematic priorities, and research plans; ensuring the development of research and innovation activities and research infrastructure; fulfilling the public task financing agreement; preparing and implementing the institution’s business plan and budget; attracting additional funding and leveraging grant opportunities; promoting innovation; ensuring the continuous development of the researchers’ career path; expanding scientific, industrial, and higher education partnerships; and continuously enhancing the institution’s international activities and visibility.

In performing their duties, the Director General consults and cooperates with the President, the CEO, and the Scientific Vice-Presidents. Employer’s rights over the Director General are exercised by the President of HUN-REN.

The Directors General form the College of Directors General, which supports the work of the Governing Board. In this capacity, it expresses its views in a consultative role on strategic issues of fundamental importance to HUN-REN, with particular regard to the long-term strategy and priorities of scientific and research activities. The President, the CEO, and the Scientific Vice-Presidents also participate in the meetings of the College.
