Current and Former Presidents of HUN-REN Awarded High State Honours

Balázs Gulyás has been awarded the Széchenyi Prize in recognition of his internationally outstanding research and his contributions to the development of Hungarian science. Miklós Maróth has received the Széchenyi Grand Prize for his exemplary scientific work, his distinguished teaching, and his scientific activities enriching Hungarian intellectual life.

Balázs Gulyás, President of the HUN-REN Hungarian Research Network, received the Széchenyi Prize on 14 March from Tamás Sulyok, President of Hungary, in recognition of his outstanding achievements in the field of neurological and psychiatric diseases and his research into the capabilities of the human brain. He was also honoured for his multifaceted and committed public scientific work in advancing Hungarian scientific life.

Miklós Maróth, a Széchenyi Prize-winning classical philologist and orientalist, is a recipient of the Hungarian Corvin Chain, a full member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and the predecessor of the HUN-REN Hungarian Research Network. He is also the former President of the Eötvös Loránd Research Network. Professor Maróth received the Széchenyi Grand Prize on the occasion of the national holiday in recognition of his exceptionally valuable and exemplary scientific contributions to Hungary. His internationally renowned research in Hungarian Oriental Studies, his extensive published work, his outstanding teaching, and his active role in scientific public life and organisation have significantly enriched Hungarian intellectual life.
