Eötvös Loránd University Senate votes by large majority to take over four HUN-REN humanities research centres

08.07.2025

Dear Colleagues,

The Senate of Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) has voted by a large majority in favour of taking over four humanities research centres from HUN-REN. This decision confirms the resolution adopted by the HUN-REN Governing Board on 20 June, which allows the institutions to continue operating within the university framework, maintaining existing employment relationships while enabling new forms of professional integration.

The decision also paves the way for a new phase in the professional and human cooperation that has long connected the communities of HUN-REN and ELTE. Over the next few days, we will finalise the handover schedule, complete the documents detailing guarantees for researchers and institutional operations, and establish the joint ELTE–HUN-REN Monitoring Committee.

We would like to thank all colleagues involved for their patience, commitment, and ongoing professional engagement throughout this transitional period.

Within the renewed HUN-REN research network, we remain committed to maintaining and strengthening a stable, predictable, and internationally competitive scientific environment, ensuring the continuity of research careers and addressing salary harmonisation.

With best regards,

Balázs Gulyás
