A new research grant program is being launched in collaboration between HUN-REN and CUHK

A new research grant program launched through a collaboration between the HUN-REN Hungarian Research Network and The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) aims to initiate joint projects and establish long-term academic partnerships.

The call for proposals titled “The Chinese University of Hong Kong – HUN-REN Hungarian Research Network Joint Fund 2026” is based on a cooperation agreement signed between The Chinese University of Hong Kong and the HUN-REN Hungarian Research Network on November 19, 2025. Established in accordance with the strategic objectives set forth in that agreement, the program supports the launch of joint research initiatives that can lay the foundation for long-term, sustainable collaborations with significant scientific impact between researchers at the two institutions.

The call for proposals gives priority to joint research initiatives in the fields of medical and health sciences, artificial intelligence, and energy research. The program seeks project proposals that map the research capacities of the two institutions and lay the groundwork for future joint research, scientific workshops, professional events, or even larger-scale international collaborations. The initiative contributes to deepening scientific ties between the two institutions, better utilization of research capacities, and improving research performance.

A condition for submitting an application is that one leading researcher from HUN-REN and one from CUHK must actively participate in the project’s implementation as co-principal investigators. Under the program, a maximum of 150,000 HKD (approximately 6.4 million HUF) in co-financing is available per project, of which up to 75,000 HKD may be provided by CUHK and up to 3,200,000 HUF by HUN-REN. Under this call for proposals, up to five projects will receive funding in 2026.

The implementation period for funded projects will be from July 2026 to June 2027. The deadline for submitting applications is April 15, 2026.
