HUN-REN Researchers Recognised at the 199th General Assembly of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences
At this year’s May General Assembly of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, the Academy Gold Medal, the Academy Awards, the Academy Prize for Science Journalism, the Mór Wahrmann Medal, and the János Arany Lifetime Achievement Award were presented. Several researchers affiliated with HUN-REN received awards or were elected as new members of the Academy.
At the Academy’s annual General Assemblies, the Academy Gold Medal is the highest honour among the awards traditionally presented. According to the official announcement, this lifetime achievement award recognises the laureate’s entire scientific career.
This year’s recipient is Jenő Sólyom, Full Member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and Research Professor Emeritus at the Institute for Solid State Physics and Optics at the HUN-REN Wigner Research Centre for Physics, and Professor Emeritus at the Institute of Physics and Astronomy, Faculty of Science, Eötvös Loránd University.
He received the award in recognition of his internationally significant contributions to the theoretical study of low-dimensional and strongly correlated magnetic and electronic systems in solid-state physics, as well as for his outstanding role in laying the foundations and building up solid-state physics education in Hungary.
At the General Assembly, the Academy Awards were presented to researchers or research groups, in recognition of their outstanding research achievements and scholarly output—including publications and academic books—over the past few years.
Among this year’s recipients were several researchers from HUN-REN:
- Ákos Bartha, PhD, Research Fellow at the Institute of History, HUN-REN Research Centre for the Humanities.
- Anna Dalos, Doctor of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Scientific Advisor and Head of the Archives for 20th–21st Century Hungarian Music at the Institute for Musicology, HUN-REN Research Centre for the Humanities.
- Péter Ódor, Doctor of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Director of the Institute of Ecology and Botany, HUN-REN Centre for Ecological Research.
