Budapest to Become the Capital of Artificial Intelligence – World-Class Scientists Coming to Hungary

23.04.2025

Some of the world’s leading artificial intelligence researchers are gathering in Budapest to discuss the latest developments, trends, and breakthroughs in the field. The three-day “AI Symposium 2025” is jointly organised by the HUN-REN Hungarian Research Network and Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University (NTU).

More than 50 leading researchers are coming to Hungary for the international event. Participants will include experts from the United States, Germany, Singapore and Hungary — scientists who are actively shaping the future.

The symposium will explore key questions in artificial intelligence through four main themes: trustworthy and sustainable AI, network science, healthcare, and industrial automation.

Keynote speakers include NTU Professor Tao Dacheng, one of the world’s most highly cited AI experts, with over 112,000 citations.

Albert-László Barabási, a prominent figure in scientific network research, will speak on network science, while Professor Guan Cuntai — a leading expert in brain-computer interface (BCI) research — will present AI applications in biomedicine. The frontiers of industrial automation and robotics will be represented by Professor Lin Weisi, an expert in visual signal processing.

"Artificial intelligence is not the future — it is the present. This event is an opportunity for Hungary not just to follow the AI revolution, but to help shape it. At the same time, AI comes with scientific responsibility. Hungary's goal is to lead the development of trustworthy, transparent, and human-centred AI through its research network. In this sense, artificial intelligence is a compass pointing towards the future. We are proud that Budapest can host this high-level scientific meeting," said Roland Jakab, CEO of HUN-REN.

A special feature of the symposium is that Hungarian researchers and representatives of domestic companies will have the opportunity to actively participate in the scientific dialogue. The event is supported by major international partners such as Bosch, Nokia, Ericsson, and Continental, whose involvement strengthens cooperation between science and industry. Hungarian researchers and companies will also gain insight into the latest international developments and have the opportunity to build direct connections with some of the world’s leading AI researchers.

Further information and programme details are available on the official symposium website.
