HUN-REN SZTAKI Hosts Tsinghua University BRÜCKE Practice Team

06.08.2025

On 6 August 2025, HUN-REN Institute for Computer Science and Control (HUN-REN SZTAKI) welcomed the BRÜCKE practice team from Tsinghua University, led by Prof. Shi Wei, Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. The delegation included two doctoral mentors and fourteen undergraduate students who travelled to Budapest as part of their international practice program, aiming to deepen scientific and technological exchanges while also engaging in cultural experiences.

Dr. András Benczúr, Scientific Director of the Artificial Intelligence National Laboratory and Head of the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory at HUN-REN SZTAKI, presented an overview of Hungary’s manufacturing capacities, SZTAKI’s research activities, and the work of the AI National Laboratory. He also highlighted examples of industry–research collaboration, including a case study on transfer molding scrap rate prediction. The group also had the chance to experience the institute’s unique technological demonstrations, including its portrait-drawing robot and autonomous drone.

The highlight of the visit was a lecture by Prof. József Váncza, Head of the Research Laboratory on Engineering & Management Intelligence, who presented SZTAKI’s research on the applications of AI in manufacturing. His talk covered a wide spectrum of topics — from production system design and planning to process modelling, optimization, quality assurance, maintenance, automated assembly and disassembly, and autonomous robotic systems in manufacturing.

The half-day program gave the students valuable insights into the state-of-the-art research taking place in Hungary and offered them inspiration for their future academic and professional journeys. HUN-REN expressed its hope that the BRÜCKE program will continue to serve as a bridge between Hungarian and Chinese students, encouraging future exchanges, joint learning opportunities, and long-term cooperation in the field of intelligent manufacturing.
