1,611 Earthquakes Recorded Last Year in the Carpathian Basin by the Kövesligethy Radó Seismological Observatory, HUN-REN Institute of Earth Physics and Space Science

The Hungarian National Seismological Bulletin reported that in 2024, the 15 permanent and 32 temporary stations installed in previous years remained in operation.

The summary of last year's seismic events reported that in 2024, a total of 1,611 local seismic events were recorded within the area bounded by latitudes 45.5–49.0°N and longitudes 16.0–23.0°E. Of these, 327 were identified as earthquakes and 1,334 as explosions.

They also reported that seven earthquakes were felt by the public in Hungary during the year, three of which occurred within the country:

  • On 28 January, a 2.3-magnitude earthquake in Zamárdi, Somogy County.
  • On 16 July, a 2.3-magnitude earthquake in Ságvár, also in Somogy County.
  • On 6 September, a 2.2-magnitude earthquake near Nagyveleg, Fejér County.
