Visit of the Korea Basic Science Institute (KBSI) Delegation to the HUN-REN HQ
On 9 September 2025, Balázs Gulyás, President of HUN-REN, welcomed Professor Sung-Kwang Yang, President of the Korea Basic Science Institute (KBSI), and his delegation from the Republic of Korea. The meeting took place at HUN-REN’s new headquarters, which provided a prestigious venue for high-level professional discussions.
This was not the first encounter between the two parties: in 2024, President Balázs Gulyás visited the Republic of Korea, where initial discussions had already begun regarding potential areas of cooperation. The current meeting in Budapest offered an opportunity to continue this dialogue and take concrete steps toward the realization of shared goals.

Among the participants was András Tompos, Director of the Institute of Materials and Environmental Chemistry at the HUN-REN Centre for Natural Sciences, who presented the institute’s research profile and outlined opportunities for collaboration with the Korean partners.
The parties reviewed possibilities for launching joint research projects and identified several scientific fields in which cooperation could be expanded at both institutional and research centre levels, strengthening Hungarian–Korean scientific relations.

Furthermore, the KBSI delegation also paid a visit to the HUN-REN Centre for Energy Research where they discussed matters of professional cooperation with their Hungarian counterparts.
