Smart Medicine: Exploring the Future of Healthcare AI Up Close in Budapest

25.04.2025

From 8 to 10 May, Budapest will be in the spotlight of the international artificial intelligence research community. The HUN-REN Hungarian Research Network and Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University (NTU) are hosting a joint AI Symposium, where leading international experts will present the latest developments and trends in the field. Held at the Várkert Bazár, the three-day event aims to give Hungarian researchers and industry professionals direct insight into cutting-edge AI advancements, while fostering closer ties with top global specialists.

One of the symposium’s key themes is healthcare and medical artificial intelligence, with a focus on the latest AI-driven advances in personalised medicine, predictive diagnostics, and pharmaceutical research. Participants will gain insight into how AI can streamline and accelerate diagnostic processes, support the development of tailored treatment strategies, and play a vital role in the discovery and clinical evaluation of new drug compounds.

AI in Medicine and Healthcare

The event also offers insight into the application of AI in cognitive and systems-level neuroscience, which has the potential to revolutionise our understanding, early detection, and treatment of neurological and psychiatric disorders. This type of research enables more precise mapping of brain patterns associated with various conditions and supports the development of technologies such as brain-computer interfaces (BCIs), which could open up new possibilities for patients living with communication and mobility challenges. Among the distinguished speakers is Professor Guan Cuntai from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, a leading international expert in brain-computer interface research.

In addition to healthcare, the event will showcase other key areas, including trustworthy and sustainable machine learning, network science, and innovations in industrial automation and robotics.

The aim of the symposium is not only to foster scientific exchange, but also to strengthen the international profile of Hungary’s research and innovation ecosystem.
