Court registers new HUN-REN Hungarian Research Network

29.10.2025

The Budapest-Capital Regional Court has registered the HUN-REN Hungarian Research Network, which will henceforth operate as a legal entity with a special status set out in law. This change marks a key milestone in the multi-year process of organisational renewal, enabling more stable operations and greater flexibility in financial management.

‘HUN-REN is a knowledge network powered by the strength and talent of Hungarian researchers. Legal autonomy strengthens this community by providing greater freedom to make decisions, more predictable operations and a clear path for growth,’

said Balázs Gulyás, President of HUN-REN.

With this autonomy, resource and development planning will proceed within more unified frameworks. As a result, research institutes and centres across the network can more easily access continually evolving technological and research infrastructure and partnerships, and achieve greater international visibility.

‘A practical advantage of autonomy is that research results can be translated into economic and societal value more quickly and effectively. Stronger strategic representation will contribute to Hungary’s innovation performance, the growth of the knowledge-based economy and the creation of new industrial partnerships,’

added Roland Jakab, CEO of HUN-REN.

The HUN-REN Hungarian Research Network employs around 5,000 staff to strengthen the presence and societal impact of Hungarian science in Hungary and internationally.
