HUN-REN, Hungarian Association for Innovation Sign Strategic Agreement to Support Hungarian Science and Innovation

17.10.2024

The cooperation between HUN-REN and the Hungarian Association for Innovation focuses on the utilisation of Hungarian scientific achievements in the economy, promoting knowledge transfer between actors in the national and international innovation ecosystems, and providing professional support to young researchers. To boost the competitiveness of Hungarian researchers and enterprises, the partners are also launching an incubator programme.

HUN-REN and the Hungarian Association for Innovation (MISZ) will strengthen their social, specialised, and strategic cooperation moving forward. The agreement, signed on 16 October during the MISZ board meeting, outlines their joint commitment to collaborating on specialised and communication issues to promote European-level research, development, and innovation in Hungary.

At the signing ceremony, they reaffirmed their shared mission to nurture future researchers and talent. In addition to supporting talented students, both HUN-REN and MISZ are committed to organising joint scientific conferences and competitions where research students can present their work and build connections.

Commenting on the cooperation, Balázs Gulyás, President of HUN-REN, emphasised that the strategic agreement with MISZ is part of a broader shift in perspective at HUN-REN. A key element of this new approach is thinking in terms of the entire value chain, prioritising the innovation transfer of exploratory research results. HUN-REN is home to excellent and successful researchers and the research network relies on its partnership with the Hungarian Association for Innovation to facilitate the societal application of research results.

Gábor Szabó, President of the Hungarian Association for Innovation, expressed the need for economic ecosystems where participants engage in mutually beneficial cooperation driven by a common goal, rather than coexisting automatically and in isolation. This approach raises the functioning of the ecosystem to a higher level. He underlined his belief that the agreement between HUN-REN and MISZ will help shape the innovation ecosystem in this direction, with the main objective of producing outstanding research results, ensuring their dissemination, and promoting their application in the economy. The primary aim of the current cooperation is to support the dissemination and utilisation of these results.

The partners have agreed to develop and implement a mentoring programme in which experienced specialists will help researchers and early-stage enterprises, as well as their founders, enhance their innovation potential and competitiveness. The two organisations have also committed to launching a joint incubator programme to support researchers and enterprises in improving knowledge and technology transfer.

In addition to the above, MISZ and HUN-REN are also committed to strengthening and developing knowledge hubs founded on the collaboration between universities and HUN-REN research sites.
