HUNRENTECH: A new technology transfer company supporting researchers in practice
HUN-REN’s newly established technology transfer company seeks to bridge the gap between research excellence and industry
HUNRENTECH Ltd was founded to provide researchers within the HUN-REN Hungarian Research Network with effective support to help turn their scientific results into practical applications. The company’s mission is to collaborate closely with researchers to develop marketable and socially beneficial solutions from which the researchers themselves can also directly benefit.
The aim is to support researchers throughout the entire innovation process – from the initial idea to practical implementation – while enabling them to focus as fully as possible on their own field of expertise: research. HUNRENTECH operates on a competence-based model, providing hands-on support with intellectual property, business development and innovation consultancy through a team of dedicated experts.
However, it is important to emphasise that, although the company has been established and has begun operations, the structures and processes required for full-scale operation and comprehensive service delivery are still being developed. HUNRENTECH Ltd’s support system will gradually be built up, reaching full capacity over a period of structured development.
‘At HUNRENTECH, we’re not just focused on innovation and its application – the researcher is at the heart of everything we do,’ said Dr Attila Erdős, Managing Director of HUNRENTECH. ‘We believe we could build the most professional organisation in the world, but if we don’t put the researcher at the centre, we won’t get very far.’
At HUN-REN’s 49 research sites, more than 3,500 outstanding researchers are working to turn scientific discoveries into solutions that generate social and economic value. While the research community produces a wealth of innovative ideas, bringing these to market often proves challenging, as the scientific and business worlds operate in fundamentally different ways. HUN-REN’s new technology transfer company was established to bridge this gap. Its mission is to identify promising research results, support their patenting, and connect them with suitable industrial partners and investors for commercial exploitation.
Dr Attila Erdős, Managing Director of HUNRENTECH, is a medical doctor and an INSEAD MBA graduate with over twenty years’ experience in the international innovation and healthcare sectors. He has held senior leadership roles at multinational companies in the Baltics, London and Central and Eastern Europe, and has substantial experience in managing the operations and challenges of start-up companies. As an adviser to HUN-REN, he developed a comprehensive understanding of the research network’s operations and played an active role in shaping HUNRENTECH’s strategy.
Commenting on the establishment of the company, Roland Jakab said: ‘Our goal is for HUNRENTECH to serve as a genuine bridge between Hungarian research excellence and economic impact, helping to turn scientific results into tangible benefits for both society and industry.’
