HUN-REN Participation in the Conference of Academia Europaea
HUN-REN participated for the first time as a patron member at the General Assembly and Annual Conference of Academia Europaea, the largest individual-membership European academic organisation, held in Wroclaw, Poland. President Balázs Gulyás delivered a lecture on the organisation’s life sciences section and introduced HUN-REN as a new patron member during the General Assembly.

From November 24-28, 2024, Academia Europaea, an international academic organisation, held its annual General Assembly and Annual Conference titled "Building Bridges 2024" in Wroclaw, Poland. Academia Europaea is a network of distinguished researchers from Europe and other continents with European affiliations, comprising more than 5,000 members, including about 100 from Hungary. Thanks to the support of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA), one of the organisation’s six thematic hubs is based in Budapest.
Recognising the collaboration opportunities offered by Academia Europaea, HUN-REN established institutional patron membership with the prestigious scientific organisation, formalised through a recently signed agreement. Representing HUN-REN, President Balázs Gulyás attended the event and, as a member of Academia Europaea and Chair of the Physiology and Neuroscience Section, delivered an insightful lecture titled "Maintenance of High Cognitive Performance During Ageing." Additionally, at the General Assembly of academic members, Balázs Gulyás introduced the Hungarian Research Network as a patron of the organisation and outlined how the HUN-REN Headquarters intends to contribute to its activities as a patron member. This collaboration enables HUN-REN to nominate new academic members, provides the opportunity to organise joint international events, strengthen HUN-REN’s international relations and initiate new research collaborations. At the conference, participants learned not only of advancements within specific scientific fields but also attended multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary presentations covering life sciences, humanities and social sciences, and physical sciences with a lecture by Professor Emmanuelle Charpentier, the 2020 Nobel Prize Laureate in Chemistry among them.
